Whether it's training for a marathon or trying to get the blood pumping to tackle a particularly consuming task, the crunching guitars, pounding beats and roaring vocals of a mighty metal track make for the perfect combination to super-charge one's adrenalin.
Feeling the need to break out of the thick blanket of fatigue which swallows many of us on a Monday morning, here's five kick ass metal songs to super-charge the motivation and get adrenalin pumping hard.
1) Bobaflex - Bury Me With My Guns On
Bobaflex are unquestionably the finest band I've discovered in 2012. Though not all of their songs come as rowdy and packed full of vitriol as this one, they're easily a group everybody should have in their playlists when the need arises to stir the senses and spring into action. Bury Me With My Guns On is perhaps the best example of this. Just take a listen for yourself.
2) Five Finger Death Punch - Under and Over It
"Did you hear the one about me giving a shit? 'Cos if I ever did, I don't remember it!"
With it's message of absolute defiance and unwavering self-belief blazing a belligerent trail over machine-gun drums and juggernaut riffs, Under and Over It is one of the best examples of the perfect song to relight that fire in your belly and send you out into the world to kick ass and achieve awesome things. OK, so the video is terrible, but ignore that, this is a mighty fine song.
3) Volbeat - A Warrior's Call
With it's instant cry of 'Let's get ready to rumble!" and occasional hostile chants of "Fight! Fight! Fight!" we have a song custom made to help listeners rise above whatever challenges lie in their way and to conquer whatever mountain of a task lies ahead.Yes, this seems like perhaps a more violent song than is entirely necessary, but imagine just for a moment that you're not being commanded to beat somebody up, but rather to fight against challenges, obstacles and demons and to prevail every time, and that's why this is such a good song.
4) Fireball Ministry - King
The ferocious guitar riff that kicks off this song and drags it through a whole world of awesome is enough to have this song included on anybody's list. While most songs here are included to get your adrenalin pumping before you tackle whatever lies ahead today, this one is perfect for keeping it going and willing yo on once you've started.
5) Pantera - Walk
Here's a little something for any 'old-school' metal heads reading this and bemoaning the fact that most of this list comprises relatively new bands. Is there anything more likely to get your blood pumping than having Phil Anselmo belching down your ear over a vicious guitar and thunderous rhythm?
Have your own suggestions for adrenalin-pumping tunes? I'd love to hear them!
