I'll make no bones about the fact that Adam Duritz and his wonderful ensemble are up there in my Top Three Bands of All Time, and they make for damn good listening at any time of year, but for whatever reason, as the sunny days of summer gradually fade into the grey drizzle of a cold winter, I tend to binge on a musical diet consisting of little other than Counting Crows albums.
Maybe I find myself in a more reflective mood as one year ends and another begins, and since Duritz's lyrics tend to relate to my life more than any other artist, I just need them more than ever.
Honestly, I've no idea.
All I know is that much of my wet, weary winters are spent indoors, the rain lashing against my window as beautiful songs like Washington Square slide from my speakers and wrap me in their warmth.
This song, about leaving familiar territory behind and moving to pastures new, I find particularly apt this year.
Please, enjoy.
