There are some bands whose entrance into the vast soundtrack of one's life can be remembered quite clearly, defined by a period of time, a particular incident or a single moment in which their music was a crucial part of the whole experience.
And then there are those bands who just seem to appear in your CD collection for no good reason and whose songs are seemingly embedded in your subconscious without you having the faintest idea how, or why, they got there.
Like The Awakening.
A full 15 years after the South African goth rockers released their debut album Risen, I'm still none the wiser as to how this band came into my life or what it was that made me enjoy them so much.
If I were to make any kind of guess though, I'd say it had something to do with this fantastically dark cover of Simon & Garfunkle's The Sound of Silence.
Please enjoy.
