Rightly or wrongly, I'm going to assume that the title of today's post refers to the American understanding of the word 'holiday', as in Christmas time, and simply pick my favourite Christmas tune.
(By the way, if you've just joined us and have no idea where I'm getting these entries from, the answer is here on Facebook)
It might sound like a no-brainer, an obvious choice, a cop-out even, to go with Shane McGowan and the late Kirsty McColl's brilliantly beautiful romp through a bickering, booze-fueled Christmas Eve, but come on, forget Christmas, this surely ranks up there somewhere in a list of Greatest 'Songs of All Time. Ever.'
I remember seeing The Pogues live in Manchester just a few years ago on what I mockingly referred to as their Christmas Cash-in Tour.
The gig remains one of my favourite to this day, a riotous affair mixing punk, rock, traditional Irish ditties and a whole host of good cheer.
McGowan, of course, seemed very much worse for wear, when the opening bars of his band's most popular hit struck, even he came to life, waltzing about the stage with, I believe, the daughter of one his band mates who filled in for the tragically deceased McColl on vocals.
It was a rather magical performance of a song which more than deserves to be listed under today's entry.
I know Christmas was almost two months ago but please, enjoy.
