I remember the first time I heard R.E.M.
Driving along in the dead of night en route to a family holiday in Newquay, Dad slips an album on the stereo and a deep, almost menacing acoustic guitar purred through the speakers as an equally as-threatening voice sang 'Hey, kids, where are you? / Nobody tells you what to do'
From that moment on, I became a big fan of Michael Stipe et al, and Automatic For the People still ranks up there in my unwitten Top Five Albums of All Time List.
Which is odd, because there's one song on there that I absolutely can not stand.
I don't know why I have such an intolerance to Everybody Hurts, maybe it's because it's one of the most overplayed songs of all time, maybe it's because, on an album which is otherwise powerful and full of a certain dark atmosphere, this song stands as just being a little weak and drab.
Either way, here's that God awful song.
Please enjoy, if you can.
