Some of the North West’s brightest up and coming bands join forces this Bank Holiday weekend to raise money for Help for Heroes at the first Millstone Rocks Festival.
Hosted by The Millstone pub on Harvey Lane, Golborne, the event runs over three days from Saturday August 27th - Monday August 29th and features a wealth of live music and entertainment.
After stealing the show at Haigh Fest 2011, rising reggae stars Jeramiah Ferrari will get Saturday’s event underway when they take to the stage at 2.15pm. They’ll be joined by the likes of local punk rockers Skive and Stoke-based folk/funk crossover act Mother’s Country who, wrap up a successful career wowing crowds up and down the country, by playing their final show at Millstone Rocks.
Sunday sees Golborne’s own Colour Me Blind take to the stage fresh from a number of high-profile appearances at Manchester Academy, The Cavern in Liverpool and Wigan Town Centre’s annual Bands for All event.
They share the bill with acts such as acoustic singer/songwriter Olly Squires, local indie-rock veterans Urban Circus and St. Helens’ rockers Titors Insignia, who’s debut album Fair City Riots recently earned the band rave reviews and fan support in the process.
Monday’s bill features the likes of Wiganers Failure to Respond who are rapidly developing a large fanbase thanks to impressive performances at events such as Picnic in the Park in Hindley. They’ll be joined by the likes of acid rockers Future Jack and the ever-entertaining Owl and the Criminal.
Colour Me Blind frontman Danny Werner, 19 from Lowton said:
“We’re really excited to be playing the Millstone Rocks event alongside so many talented bands from across the North West.
“We’ve always believed that music can have the power to make a difference and with so many of us descending on Golborne to raise money for such a good cause, we’d like to urge everyone to come down over Bank Holiday weekend and show their support.”
The festival, which is free to attend and will be supported by donations, is the brainchild of Millstone landlord Anthony Bridge.

“I’ve always been a big supporter of the great work done by Help for Heroes in supporting our troops, and of the impressive talent displayed by our bands across the region, so organising an event like Millstone Rocks seemed like the perfect opportunity to bring those worlds together to raise funds for a great cause.
“We’ve already had some fantastic support from both local bands and our loyal customers, and everyone has really chipped in to ensure we make this a successful event and raise as much as we can.”
Help for Heroes is a national charity set up to provide direct, practical support for those wounded, sick or injured in the line of duty since 9/11.
Bryn Parry, co-founder and CEO of Help for Heroes, said:
“H4H is all about ‘doing your bit’ and the Millstone Rocks Festival is a wonderful example of people having a good idea, rallying support and having a great deal of fun while they raise money for a wonderful cause.
"We have been able to use the millions raised, over £105m in just under four years, to provide practical and direct support to those wounded in the current conflicts. The money you raised is needed, it is being used and it is hugely appreciated; sadly, we need a great deal more. Everyone involved in Millstone Rocks is part of something that is very British and wonderful and I would like to say thank you to you for this and every other fund raising event that it inspires.”
- The Millstone Rocks charity music festival runs each day from August 27th-August 29th between 1pm-9pm at The Millstone pub, Harvey Lane Golborne. For more information vist The Millstone on Facebook at http://on.fb.me/millygolborne .
