Back to the Old School...and other assorted adventures.

A random collection of notes on a bunch of different things going on in my mad little life right now.

A routine job turned into something quite memorable on Wednesday when I was sent to my old high school to interview my former deputy head teacher.

I hadn’t stepped foot on the grounds of good old Shevington High School for the best part of eleven years, and I won’t lie, going back there was a pretty surreal experience.

After the interview, I took myself off for a quick tour around the grounds, letting my mind race with a million long-forgotten memories and feeling quite nostalgic as I did so.

A lot happened in the five years I spent at that school, including  pop prat Peter Andre first vandalising the charts with Mysterious Girl back when I was still in Year 7.

But I'll reserve my own thoughts on Katie Price's ex for another place at another time because he’s been announced as the main event for this year’s Haigh Live concerts.

These replace the Tuned In events that ran last year, but won’t be as extensive as last year’s gigs. Andre is the star attraction, there’ll be one other ‘big name’ band playing (I know who, but I’ll get into a tonne of trouble if I mention it here.) and then it’s my favourite event of the year, Haigh Fest.

Before that, there’ll be a mammoth gig taking place in a little place called Golborne that I’m putting together with help from the lads from Colour Me Blind. It’s likely to take place some time in April with CMB as the headline act and half a dozen or so bands on throughout the day.

This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now, partly because there’s a few acts I want to check out before they apply for the aforementioned Haigh Fest, but mostly because I’m noticing more and more a lack of different places for younger bands to ply their trade, so it would be good to offer a change from the usual few venues.

I’ll talk more about that once I’ve got some concrete details, but for now I’m mostly concentrating on a busy weekend that I’ll be mostly spending in Leigh.

Saturday night I’ll be off to The Turnpike to interview BBC 6 Music Breakfast Show host Shaun Keaveny before he takes to the stage in an ‘Evening with…’ styled event. I always enjoy listening to 6 Music, so I’m very much forward to it.

After that,  I’m leaving the music world behind to play Sports Journalist for a few days, first covering the Leigh Centurions vs. Swinton Lions game at the LSV Stadium, then returning there to spend Valentines Day reporting on Blackburn Rovers vs. Blackpool in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North

And on that rather depressing thought, I shall bid ye farewell.
