A couple of updates on things I've been working on, stuff you should check out and all the usual music-related things I normally blog about:
First up, had a chat with James O 'Brien from Dublin/London outfit Black Soul Strangers on Thursday. The band's new single, The Haunted, is out on Monday (it's quite good too), so we mostly talked about that. We also talked about whether there's still a place in the modern music industry for major labels the benefits of going it alone.
I'm hoping to get that interview online tomorrow, along with a review of the single.
Next comes the big news that Haigh Fest, Wigan Borough's annual celebration of local unsigned talent, is back on. The event usually attracts crowds of around 7,000 each year, so it's always one to look forward to.
I got an initial design for a website (along with band application forms etc) done on Friday, but I'm not completely happy with it, so after a trip to watch the football in the pub this afternoon, I'm going to knock up some new graphics...which should be fun.
Speaking of live music, the showcase for young bands in Wigan that I've been organising is coming together nicely.
Bands on the night include Colour Me Blind, Chaos Theory, Short Notice and Facing Paige. I'm also hugely grateful to Cat Ashton for agreeing to come and photograph the event.
I promise I'll post more on this in good time.
I also promise that I will shower with love anyone who can get me an invite to Spotify.
And finally, a video:
I've talked a lot about my undying love for Counting Crows. The other day, I was eagerly searching good ol' Youtube for a video of one of my favourite CC tracks, Baby I'm a Big Star Now. I didn't find anything official, but I did find something by a rather talented guy called Eddie Olivas, whose cover of the song amazed me.
If you like good music, you'll love this:
